Turntables

Turntables, also known as phonographs or record players, are a device used for playing sound recordings. They were most popular up through the 1980s, though they are actually coming back into style now as a sort of modern novelty.

A lot of modern bands are actually releasing their albums on vinyl, causing an influx in turntable sales and in the sales of vinyl records, such that it has sparked a sort of cultural revolution of sorts in the music industry.

While the years 2000-2010 were filled with technological advances, making music easier and easier to listen to and acquire, it became obvious that a lot of music lovers were dissatisfied with the “cheapening” of their favorite music.

A lot of music lovers actually see the usage of lossy file types like MP3 as a way to ruin the true standard of the music itself, which is why they would rather listen on CD players, or better yet, on vinyl. DJ's use turntables alot, along with turntable slipmats.

While vinyl or its use on turntables is nowhere near as popular as the CD, a lot of people do appreciate vinyl because it is not such a “refined” medium for music. Vinyl gives music a sort of character that is all its own.

If you own a vinyl record of a band, there will be no other vinyl record that will sound exactly like it. This is because every time you listen to a vinyl record on a turntable, a groove is worn that only that turntable is able to produce. This is why playing a vinyl record on different turntables can cause the sound to change over time.

Nowadays, you can buy a turntable to play vinyl records at your local electronics store. They are a bit low-definition compared to Cds, but a lot of music lovers do not seem to mind!
